Booking Details & Studio Policies
Ready to schedule your Los Angeles photography session with JDLA Photography? Here is everything you need to know about our booking process and transparent pricing:
- Securing Your Date: To officially reserve your session on our calendar, your contract and invoice must be completed within 24 hours of receipt. Due to high demand across the LA and San Fernando Valley areas, dates cannot be held beyond this 24-hour window and will be released to the next family on our schedule.
- Transparent Investment: Your 20% retainer fee is strictly to secure your date and is fully included in your total session price—it is never an additional charge. Please note that all packages and pricing are non-negotiable and are subject to change based on studio availability and demand. All products and services are subject to a 9.5% California sales tax.
- Image Selection & Add-Ons: After your shoot, your unedited proofs will be delivered through a private online viewing gallery, allowing you to comfortably select your favorite images from home. If you simply cannot choose, additional high-resolution digital images may be added to your package for $30 each.

(Professional Hair & Makeup services can be added to any maternity session for approximately $250. Additional high-resolution images can always be purchased after your session for $30 each.)
My Process
1. Reserving Your Spot
Newborns: Because babies rarely arrive on their exact due date, JDLA limits the number of bookings per month to keep their schedule flexible. You book your spot in advance, and then notify the studio within 24 to 48 hours of your baby's birth to lock in the actual session date. Ideally, newborn shoots happen during the "golden window" when the baby is 5 to 12 days old.
Maternity: It is recommended to schedule your maternity shoot for when you are between 29 and 34 weeks along, when the bump is nicely rounded but before late-pregnancy discomfort sets in.
All other sessions I recommend booking 3 weeks in advance from when you'll need your final Images.
2. The Session
What's provided: The studio is fully equipped so you don't have to pack much. They provide all newborn outfits, professional props, custom backdrops, and a client closet of maternity gowns for moms-to-be.
What to bring: For newborn sessions, you just need to bring your baby, plenty of milk (formula or breastmilk for feedings/comfort), and up to two personal props if you want something specific included.
3. Proofing and Selection
After the shoot, you will receive a digital proofing gallery of the unedited photos. This allows you to review all the shots and select your final favorites based on the number of images included in your specific package (though you can always purchase additional image add-ons).
4. Editing and Final Delivery
Once you submit your selections, the professional retouching phase takes about 2 to 3 weeks. Each image is hand-edited to remove blemishes and ensure smooth, consistent skin tones. Your final polished gallery is then delivered to you digitally in high resolution.
